Goodbye Sony Computer Entertainment, Hello Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Sony announced today that they’re bringing Sony Computer Entertainment together with Sony Network Entertainment a new form. Sony Interactive Entertainment.

In charge of research, sales, and development of Playstation, as well as the software, hardware, network services and other content will be stationed in San Mateo, California by this new company.

Founded on November 1993, Sony Computer Entertainment went on the launch of its first PlayStation console in December 1994.  Sony Network Entertainment was established on 2010 as to produce services and new content for the PlayStation Network.

“By integrating the strengths of PlayStation’s hardware, software, content and network operations, SIE will become an even stronger entity, with a clear objective to further accelerate the growth of the PlayStation business,” said Sony’s Andrew House in an official statement.

“Along with our business partners, SIE will develop pioneering services and products that will continue to inspire consumers’ imaginations and lead the market,” House continued. “We will work hard to maximize corporate value by coordinating global business operations across San Mateo, Tokyo, and London by leveraging local expertise

The changes will take place when the Japanese companies start their business year that’s on April 1.  Both companies (Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment) will cease to exist as separate companies and will be replaced by the newly combined Sony Interactive Entertainment.
