TPS (Third-Person Shooter) Games has come a long way in the world of gaming. Though its population is far less than its FPS (First Person Shooter) counterparts, the genre still boasts amazing gameplay that allows players to fully immerse themselves for hours on end. Quoting Google, TPS is defined as a type of computer game whose game play involves shooting enemies and other targets and in which a player views the action as if from a position behind the character they are controlling.
Personally I’d pick TPS over FPS any day, since it gives me the feeling of being more in control of my character lending me the extra eye to oversee my surroundings. Whenever I’m stalking someone in-game, it provides me the leverage I need to get ahead.
That being said, below are my Top 5 Third-Person Shooter/Adventure games this year.
#5: Gears of War 4 (Xbox One, PC) – Gears of War 4 is (obviously) the fourth installment of the franchise. As with its predecessors, its game play it quite monotonous – hallway – courtyard – firefight – after you enter a doorway, you have to pull a lever to move forward since the pathway behind you expectedly closes. From the ever-so-familiar sound effects to the nasty-got-even-nastier enemies. If you’re into these types of shooter-based games, then this one’s for you.
The pathway is quite linear to the point that you already know what’s going to happen even if it’s your first time playing the game. Same as how Gears of War has always been. But a midst of it all, GOW4 has its own perks that leaves players wanting for more. The breathtaking scenery, the wittiness and sarcastic voice overs of each character. The compelling story that continues from the previous installment. This game can still give you your money’s worth, by hook or by crook.
#4: Hitman (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – Hitman, is an action-adventure episodic stealth video game and is the sixth entry to the Hitman series. Developed by IO Interactive and published by Square Enix. What I love about this game is that it gives me the power to be someone I am not and cannot hope to ever will be. That feeling of power. The skills he possesses are uncanny that could make any enemy shiver at the very news that he’s coming for them.
This game made it to my top 5 simply because of it’s game play, how you need to be stealthy at the same time efficient in everything you do. The stunning graphics clearly show how IO made a point on how intricate a character’s highlights should and would be to become realistic. This game is one great catch for gamers of all ages to play with.
#3: Quantum Break (Xbox One, PC) – Quantum Break is a sci-fi fiction, action-adventure video game developed by Remedy Entertainers and Published by Microsoft Studios. This game takes us to a sort-of-like movie feeling. It’s gripping and easy story plot, along with the excellent performance of the live-action and digital forms makes want to play it more and more AND more!
Enter the distinct combat system on board, it is quite enjoyable to play with I tell you, with wide array of time-based powers and exploding time bubbles, it definitely keeps the players wanting to do more at every turn.
#2: Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (PS4) – Uncharted is an action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. What I can say is that, this game, is lit as f*ck (excuse me for the language). When I started playing this game, the moment it dawned its opening credits I got hooked to it like a junkie on drugs! From the story line down to its game play and stunning audio-visual effects.
Surely, I’m not the only one who got into the UC4 hype bandwagon when they started releasing trailers. Though they could’ve been more generous with its mind-boggling puzzles or maybe put more effort in plotting a much more open-world based game, UC4 is one game not to miss to purchase this year.
#1: Tom Clancy’s The Division (PS4, Xbox On, PC) – And last but certainly not the leat, Tom Clancy’s The Division. This game is an online, open world video game developed by Ubisoft Massive and published by Ubisoft. Now this game came right into the number one spot on my list because of one thing. This was the first TPS game that got me hooked for ohh, I dunno five months? It has this pull that no other TPS game did on me. The gameplay’s awesome, the story line? Captivating. And how you need to grind like your life depended on it really placed me on edge almost all the time whenever I popped its CD into my PS4.
The ‘Dark Zone’ feature was also something that got me off of this game. The challenge of surviving the uber-charged NPC’s was a pain in the butt to the point that sometimes it even made me utter curses under my breath. And I don’t like to curse! All the more if you start to battle rogues whose only goal is to kill you to either get your loot OR would just love to skewer your character for ounce of dark zone experience. Which by when collected to the right amount, increases your DZ level in the game. THere are alot of exciting things to explore in The Division. The Underground DLC also made its rounds last August 2 and made players go on zombie mode to farm new armor and weapons to try test out on others. Among others, this game really gave me my money’s worth and lived up its name until the very end.
