CCP Games Sells Newcastle Studio to Crackdown 3 Developer Sumo Digital

The studio behind EVE: Valkyrie, first off as a VR exclusive that made its way to dozens of players by supporting a non-VR mode, CCP Games’ Newcastle, has been acquired by the Crackdown 3 studio Sumo Digital.

EVE: Valkyrie, based on the massive multiplayer online game EVE, is one of the launch titles for Sony’s PlayStation VR (PSVR), and originally released for Oculus Rift in March 2016.

Last year on October 30, CCP Games already announced that they will sell their Newcastle studio, and it’s clear that Sumo Digital was the company who set their eyes into buying CCP Games’ Newcastle branch.

In the recent press release by CCP Games, 34 staff members, including Owen O’Brien as Studio Director, have been transferred to Sumo Digital but will still be working in Newcastle.

“As we continue to expand this was a great opportunity to bring an experienced, talented and tight-knit team on board,” said Paul Porter, Managing Director of Sumo Digital.

EVE: Valkyrie generally received positive feedback from critics and the community. It’s interesting to see how Sumo Digital will take advantage of the talented developers from CCP Games’ Newcastle studio for their future titles.

EVE: Valkyrie is already available for Oculus Rift and PS4. Crackdown 3 is expected to launch this year exclusively for Xbox One.
