Gran Turismo Franchise Has Sold More Than 80.4 Million Units

The Gran Turismo franchise has surpassed 80.4 million units since its first launch 20 years ago, Sony Interactive Entertainment Hong Kong Limited Singapore Branch (SIES) announced today.

“It’s hard to imagine that 80.4 million copies of Gran Turismo have been played during the 20-year history of the franchise,” said Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of Gran Turismo and the CEO of Polyphony Digital, in a press release. “It makes me really happy to think of the immense amount of time that has been poured into playing our games! I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation for the community, as well as our close friends and supporters within the automotive industry.”

Gran Turismo slowly innovated the real-driving simulator throughout in years within the gaming industry. Yamauchi-san assures that they will to still continue to bring the best experience for driving simulators.

“We would like to continue our efforts in achieving the best possible expression and creation of cars and scenery, as well as bringing the highest level of excitement and fun through racing in the years to come.” Yamauchi added.

Gran Turismo Sport, the latest installment of the franchise, is going to host the FIA Gran Turismo Championships 2018 in partnership with Fédèration Internationale de l’Automobile. More details about the “Online Session” will be announced soon, according to Sony.

Gran Turismo Sport is available exclusively on PS4.
