We made this guide to help you make the best Warlock build in Baldur’s Gate 3. Follow along the best race, skills, and etc., for the Warlock class.
BG3: Best Warlock Build
For starters, we have to make our Warlock on the character creation screen. Here are your best options:
Race
- Drow
Background
- Noble
- Guild Artisan
Abilities
- Strength: 10
- Dexterity: 12
- Constitution: 16
- Intelligence: 10
- Wisdom: 10
- Charisma: 17
Subclass
- The Great Old One
The Warlock is a flexible class that doesn’t have as many spell slots as other spellcasters, but they do have powerful cantrips to make up for it. Because of their limited spell slots, they’re not as complex to play as the Wizard, so it’s easier to get the hang of them.
Best Warlock Race in BG3
The Drow is the best Race for the Warlock. Not only do you get a boost in Charisma and Dexterity, which are pretty important for this build, you also get several perks that come with being this race. Drow have Superior Darkvision making tripes to the Underdark a lot easier than they should be.
Because of their Fey Ancestry, Drow can’t be put to sleep and have an advantage against being charmed. Their Perception Proficiency also gives you a bonus to Perception Checks. At Level 5, they gain access to Darkness which allow them to blind foes preventing ranged attacks. By choosing the Drow, you pretty much have everything you need for an insanely smart Warlock.
Best Warlock Background in BG3
This Warlock build really centers around Charisma so a background like the Noble would suit it best. Nobles have Persuasion and History Proficiency giving you a bonus to those rolls. These tie in well with our Warlock’s high Charisma being able to convince others to see it our way.
The Guild Artisan is also a good pick if you want to roleplay as someone of a lower class. Guild Artisans have a Persuasion Proficiency and along that have an Insight Proficiency. They gain a bonus in Insight Checks which allow them to see past deception.
Best Warlock Abilities in BG3
Focus on investing in your Charisma stat. Warlock, along with other classes like the Paladin, primarily use Charisma as their means of accurately hitting opponents with spells. Your Charisma stat will also affect Persuasion checks which should be bolstered by your Background.
Other than that, also invest in Dexterity and Constitution. Dexterity increases your proficiency with Dexterity based weapons like bows, which is enhanced further thanks to your Drow race. Constitution allows you to take more hits so you aren’t just a walking glass cannon.
Best Warlock Subclass in BG3
The Great Old One is the best subclass for this build. Your pack with eldritch beings allow you to have some powerful class abilities that center around debuffing enemies with combat oriented spells. What we really want is its powerful cantrips and Eldritch Invocations that are available with this subclass.
