It is easy to forget about the time when you play your favorite computer game. Perhaps it is your rumbling stomach that reminds you of the hours spent in front of the screen. At this stage, you don’t want to interrupt your gaming session so you may just look for some potato chips in your kitchen cupboard or pop down to Tim Hortons for a couple of donuts. But these are unhealthy snacks that will not help your mood or your waistline. But worry not! You can have a healthy snack that doesn’t require a lot of time to prepare.
We have put together some healthy recipe ideas with the help of a Canadian gaming expert, Kevin N. Cochran. Kevin spends a lot of time playing games but appreciates quality snacks.
Guacamole and Tortilla Chips
Never buy ready-made Guacamole in a supermarket. Read the ingredients list and you will find that it contains barely one percent of avocado! It is quick and easy to make a good authentic Mexican Guacamole at home. All you need is a ripe avocado, onion, chili peppers, tomatoes, fresh coriander leaves, and lime juice. Chop all the ingredients into small pieces, mix well, and season with salt and pepper. Serve them with crispy tortilla chips.
Eating Guacamole can be a bit messy so it is perhaps not the best snack while playing console games and you need your hands on the controllers. It is, however, one of the great snacks during gambling. When you play baccarat online in Canada, you only have to concentrate a few seconds at a time, and between bets, you can dig in your Guacamole.
It takes about half an hour to prepare these delicious and super healthy snacks. Vietnamese spring rolls are not fried, unlike the Chinese ones. Fill your rolls with thin rice noodles, carrots, cucumber and lettuce, and shrimp (if you are not a vegetarian). Use your favorite sauce such as sweet chili, peanut, or simple soy sauce, and prepare the rolls before your gaming session. They stay fresh for hours even at room temperature.
Some of the best snack recipes are Italian as the Mediterranean country is famous for its flavors. Bruschetta is a great snack that requires some advanced preparation but it is well worth the effort. Rub your bread with garlic and olive oil and grill it in the oven for 15 minutes. You can then top it with tomatoes and cheese. Alternatively, you can add toppings such as cured meat, beans, or vegetables. Be prepared that your fingers will get oily so prepare with lots of napkins.
The exact origins of Hummus are debated but this delicious spread definitely comes from the Middle East. It is relatively easy to prepare and it is super healthy. You will get good fats, lots of protein, and even fiber. To prepare hummus, you’ll need cooked chickpeas, sesame paste, garlic, lemon juice, and salt and pepper to season. It can be served with pita bread or carrot and celery sticks. Hummus and other spreads are great snacks at the computer as they are not messy or greasy.
Making sushi is not as difficult as you may imagine. The secret is in buying the proper ingredients. You will need sushi rice and sushi vinegar to make sure the rice has that ideal texture. You’ll also need nori sheets (this bit is the seaweed wrapped around the sushi) and fresh tuna, salmon, or your choice of fish. Using a sushi mat is essential for rolling the nori. Vegetarians can replace the fish with cucumber, carrot, tofu, or omelet. Buy some wasabi if you can handle it and stick to soy sauce specifically made for sushi.
There are lots of healthy snacks that you can prepare quickly. They will fuel your gaming session and their exciting flavors will leave you satisfied. Try one of the above-mentioned snacks next time before you sit down to play.
