PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X Forecasted To Be Delayed Due To COVID-19

Famous market research firm DFC Intelligence recently revealed a report saying that the upcoming new generation consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X might get delayed release dates due to the current situation.

PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X to be delayed?

With the novel coronavirus making rounds around the globe, big supply chains are getting disrupted. The upcoming next-gen consoles are in need of these new materials from these supply chains. With the disruption, it is most likely that the release dates might be delayed even further than they were first planned.

DFC Intelligence revealed that a note from Jefferies Group was sent to its investors at the start of February this year. It said that there is an unprecedented state of uncertainty with COVID-19 terrorizing many countries, and that includes the ones who supply materials for these new-gen consoles. There are also restrictions to travel, which could greatly hinder trade and supply.

    DFC Intelligence stated:

Coronavirus is likely to have a major short-term impact on the delivery of both systems. There is a strong likelihood one or both systems will not make a 2020 launch. If the systems do launch, supply will likely be constrained and initial pricing could be higher than expected.

Currently, the economy is in an unprecedented state of uncertainty. Even if the situation clears up in a few weeks, the ability to manufacture and release a high-end new game system has already been severely impacted.

The good news is that consumer demand is likely to be stronger than ever. Demand will far exceed supply and long-term that could increase overall sales. In addition, the abundance of government and public caution should help assure this is a comparatively short-term crisis.

Both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will release to record consumer demand. The challenge Sony and Microsoft face is making sure they release systems that meet expectations. Given the current situation, waiting to make sure they get the initial product right is the most prudent choice.

Well, at least there is some good news. So far, Sony and Microsoft have not commented about this prediction. We will just have to wait and see.
