Valve Updates Steam to Block Regional Pricing VPN Exploit

Game company Valve has recently updated Steam in order to block the exploit that allows VPN users to take advantage of regional pricing.

The new account settings update is Valve’s attempt to stop the exploit. This will now require users to buy games using the payment methods from the country they are living in. Marketplace will also monitor which country is specified in the user’s account settings. It will also show prices and Steam Wallet funds in that currency only.

What if the user will move to another country or wants to visit one for a long period of time? They must complete a purchase using a payment method from that new location and then change their country setting. If they cannot do that, the online store will reset back to the original region they set it on before.

Valve hopes that this could prevent further exploits in the future.
