Square Enix officially reveals the fifth major expansion for Final Fantasy XIV called Dawntrail.
Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail Officially Announced
Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail was revealed during the Final Fantasy Fan Fest keynote with a trailer that featured a summer vacation theme and multiple new jobs. This will be coming in summer 2024.
Yoshi-P Dedication
FFXIV Director Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida took on the spotlight to reveal the next expansion. He said that he wanted to work on the game “until I die or even afterward.”
Dawntrail Setting
Dawntrail is an expansion that is meant to be the “very best summer vacation a hero could possibly have,” in “a sudden change from the ending of Endwalker” and would be the beginning of the “new story” for the MMORPG. The expansion is set in the New World, officially called Tural, which lies over the ocean to the far west of Eorzea. While there, the Warriors of Light will be assisting in a right of succession to determine Tural’s next ruler. It will involve a contest that eventually takes them to the games of a “fabled city of gold.” The Scions will be involved in this but Yoshi-P warns that the contest may divide the Scions into two factions.
Hub City to Hang Out
Tural has a hub city called Tuliyollal with an emphasis on diversity located in a larger region called Yok Tural. It is inhabited by diverse groups of people focused on living in harmony with nature and is ruled by Gulool Ja Ja, a two-headed Mamool Ja. The contest’s focus is to determine who will succeed him.
New Race
Dawntrail has new content features like new allied tribes like the Pelupelu, a race that comes from Final Fantasy X and X-2. They are short and wear bird-like masks, and excel at trade and beverage-making. Patch 7.0 also adds:
- A level cap increase from level 90 to 100, including new skills for all jobs
- Multiple new jobs: Yoshi-P did not say what these were, but confirmed they would both be DPS roles, one melee and one ranged magical DPS
- New dungeons
- New enemies
- A duty support update
- New gear and recipes
- New lifestyle content
- New variant dungeons
- New raids, including a new Alliance raid that will be “even more Final Fantasy-ish”
- PvP update
Big Graphic Update
Update 7.0 also brings the game’s first major graphic update. Yoshi-P says the NPCs will get a lot prettier. The limit of the number of objects that could be in an area has been increased, which makes it give more detail. Plants and vegetation will have more detail and density. Unfortunately, the grapes will have more polygons so they will still be the same like the memes.
The update will change the mechanic on dying clothes, allowing players to apply two dyes to a piece of gear instead of just one. Players can now equip eyeglasses alongside headgear, and the limit on housing furnishings have been increased too. It comes with a cost though: system requirements have a slight increase.
FFXIV Comes to Xbox
As a surprise at the end of the show, Phil Spencer joined Yoshi-P on stage to announce that the game is finally coming to Xbox Consoles. It has been a long time coming.
Final Fantasy XIV is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, and soon on Xbox consoles.
