Cardfight Vanguard is one of the most popular TCG games made by Bushiroad. Being played by many players worldwide, this game has evolved from an anime series into a real-life collection. Now, Bushiroad has released a new game called Cardfight Vanguard Dear Days 2 and CFV fans are wondering if it is worth the expense to get it. Luckily, after playing the game for over 8 hours, this review will surely open the eyes of many players especially those who wish to get into the game.
Cardfight Vanguard Dear Days 2 is the sequel to the 1st Dear Days game where players will get to chance to play not only their favorite vanguard cards but also get a chance to interact with various characters from the popular Cardfight Vanguard anime, Overdress, and from DivineZ as well. Seeing this lineup of characters has hyped me up and I love that they updated the roster and whom we can challenge.
The game’s story consists of at least 3 characters with different episodes. All of these have different story routes and will be used to face various cardfighters and more. The stories of the game are pretty good and give us a whole new introduction to what kind of fighters we will see more often. However, I am quite disappointed at the fact the map area of the game has diminished. In the last Dear Days game, we can visit various cities to interact. But now, they placed each of the characters on one map and, sadly, they downgraded the game in a way that feels disappointing.
There are a total of 1000 plus cards that can be discovered and unlocked in this game. But this does not only include the standard format cards which are currently being played by CFV fighters nowadays. There are vintage booster sets which are known as the Premium format that can also be unlocked as well. As one of those who have played this era of Vanguard, I find it nostalgic, especially since I am seeing multiple archetypes I have not seen for almost a decade or so. Examples are Majesty Lord Blaster, Phantom Blaster Overlord, Overlord The End, and more. Talk about nostalgia right? Sadly, I noticed that not all of the vintage clans have been added to this game so it is assumed that they will be released as part of the season pass update soon.
Gameplay on the other hand is still the same. They are using the same setup from the last Dear Days game. However, I noticed that they have removed the ride animation sequences. Kinda a bit disappointing as they are considered an important staple in making Vanguard a unique game. Even with the number of cards that are present in this game, gameplay with no excitement feels disappointing and boring however, it is replaced with better playing fields that are either vibrant or can change the mood that feels satisfying.
Another feature that has returned and is worth noticing is the online battles. Players such as myself want a very competitive match and what better way to have one than fighting players online? Kinda fun and worth the expense for me. Fighting other players and using decks that we build is pretty decent. It allows us to earn some rewards and learn the strengths and weaknesses of our deck builds. Not only that, fighting against other players gives me a chance also to rank up myself in becoming a better Vanguard fighter in Rank fights.
Cardfight Vanguard Dear Days is a pretty decent game but aims only at a certain targetted audience namely the Vanguard community. In my own opinion, this game should put back the removed features and add a new animation update to make the game more appealing for gamers worldwide. Not only that, I am hoping that the season pass they are planning to release would give many gamers benefits that will surely feel nostalgic yet eye opener for many.
