Abiotic Factor has recently unveiled a brand new 1.1+ Roadmap that details its plans for the remainder of 2025 through Summer 2026 and beyond. This announcement coincides with a free weekend announcement. The free weekend will run from November 7 to 9, including co-op play, so there’s no reason not to bring your friends.
The video above, uploaded on Deep Field’s YouTube channel, features the voices of CrissCrossGal, Community Manager, and Zag, Design Director. They recorded an 8:26 video going further into detail about what’s next for Abiotic Factor in the near future. They go over the stuff that’s coming in Autumn and Winter 2025, as well as some interesting content for next year. A deal is also said to be in the works, so we might hear more about it as Spring 2026 approaches.
Reminder: The roadmap presented is likely subject to change, and grow, and mutate as the dev team proceeds with development and [REDACTED].
Autumn 2025: Community Update #3
In the coming weeks and months that cover Autumn 2025, expect a few additions to the game that will enhance your survival experience. The developers are actively listening, and they have finally agreed to the requests of the small faction of players who like to feel PAIN. For everyone else, we are getting QoL adjustments and new equipment.
Free Update:
More Difficulty settings
First and foremost, there seems to be an update for the Apocalyptic Difficulty. More behaviors are added to AI enemies, and I shudder to think what new kind of Hell awaits our scientist friends.
A Hardcore mode and Iron Mode will be added. These will most likely follow unforgiving rule sets and may even feature permadeath as a main draw. These new modes coincide with more sandbox settings to play around with.
Exercise Equipment
For the longest time, bench press machines remained mostly as props in the various gyms located in the facility. When the new update hits, you will not only use the machines to build up strength, but you may also use them to charge batteries via kinetic energy. The same idea goes for the new stationary bicycle, potentially training your Sprint skill.
[Redacted] Bench
We don’t know anything about this new workbench, other than it can potentially put Grayson out of a job. If I’m not mistaken, he is best known for bartering random items for various kinds of ammunition. If this new bench happens to be a Bullet Assembly Press, Grayson might have to look for something else to barter with.
More farmables
This update is said to allow us to grow Mushrooms and possibly even Shadowberries. That’s all well and good, but I want to be able to grow apples without fear of having an entire village chasing me with torches and pitchforks… and crossbows.
Weapon improvements
Shotgun and revolver animations have been revamped in this update. I can’t say much for shotguns; I’m just glad that I don’t have to manually reload all six bullets in the chamber after shooting exactly one bullet. Depending on how good the new Industrial Crossbow could be, it might finally replace the Lodestone crossbow from my weapons lineup. The Hardlight Spear will be seen as a definite step up from the Exo Spear, as we might actually be able to throw spears again.
New Storage
Battery charging crates are said to be coming to the game as well. I assume that it functions exactly as it says, and it will recharge batteries stored inside of it. How many and how fast is the charge rate? We will have to wait and see.
I can’t wait to see wall-mountable item stands in the game. They work so well in Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. I don’t know if they’ll display items the same way guns are displayed on walls in the Fallout games.
Some Skill Perks
The video didn’t go over anything concerning Skill Perks. All we know is that it is “filling in the gaps”.
Quality of Life
- Improved teleporter tags
- Armor durability indicators (Great, more anxiety)
- Better trader behavior (Hopefully, they’ll finally move away from doorways as I’m moving through).
Crossover Cosmetics
The hint is a Jester’s hat. Personally, my bet’s on Balatro.
DLC
New Home World: Temple of Stone
The new Temple of Stone is being added to test player interest in such content. If it is successful, expect more like it in the future.
Winter 2025
Winter 2025 is set to bring the Holiday cheer! It includes the addition of a new Portal World and a new entity in the facility.
Free Update
Another Portal World is set to open in time for the Holidays. We won’t quite know where this one might be located. Chances are, it has a connection with IS-0126, aka Cruscis. From the preview, you might be able to see the silhouette of a snowman, but knowing Abiotic Factor, it will be stranger than what our imaginations can produce.
Food improvements
At this time, a new plantable will be introduced into the game. If I had to venture a guess, I hope it’s peppermint candy canes to go with the new ‘better baked buffs‘ they have in mind.
DLC
Home World: Winter Cabin
A new cozy Home World called Winter Cabin will be gifted to the community at the end of the year. There’s nothing crazy to go along with it. At least from what we’ve been told.
Things start to become unclear when we look at the content roadmap for 2026.
Spring 2026
Spring 2026 could feature a “Mystery Crossover”. Emphasis on “could” as nothing is set in stone so far.
Summer 2026
- New Sector [REDACTED] Facility
- [REDACTED] Portal Worlds
- [REDACTED] NO SPOILERS!
Expect new enemies, traders, recipes, and more. (Please let it be a trader from the Exor village)
Home World [REDACTED]
Free Update
Journal Upgrade
A new multi-quest system seems to be in the works alongside updates to the Journal. Does that mean we’ll be able to do new side quests? Probably.
New Features
The following list contains new features that may be added to the game. They apparently have something to do with palm trees, and only the brewing system is one that the developers know why it is being implemented. I hope the boats have some real functionality to them. I don’t want to refer to them as floating GATE SUVs.
- Boats
- Brewing system
- Pets V2
- More database Terminal Apps
- Fishing Improvements
- Enemy Behavior Improvements
- Traits & Customization Presets
- Emote Customization
New Crossover
A crossover that’s sure to “sink its Hook in You”. Very interesting.
Beyond!
[REDACTED]
As a final reminder, nothing in the roadmap is set. Everything is subject to change to a reasonable degree. Rest assured that the developers are working on getting most of these features done before [REDACTED]. Abiotic Factor is out now on PC (via Steam), PlayStation, and Xbox Series consoles.
