AMD and the French Commissariat à l’énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA) have announced a collaboration to drive innovation in Artificial Intelligence (AI) computing. The two organizations have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to jointly develop advanced technologies, components, and system architectures aimed at shaping the future of AI.

This partnership will focus on creating energy-efficient systems capable of handling the most demanding AI workloads across various fields, from energy to medicine. By combining AMD’s cutting-edge technology with CEA’s research expertise, the collaboration seeks to push the boundaries of AI computing infrastructure for next-generation applications.

Symposium on the Future of AI Compute in 2025

Looking ahead, AMD and CEA are planning to host a symposium in 2025 focused on the future of AI computing. This event will bring together key European stakeholders, global technology providers, startups, supercomputing centers, universities, and policymakers. The goal is to accelerate collaboration and discussion around the latest and emerging AI computing technologies.

Ralph Wittig, Corporate Fellow and head of research at AMD, emphasized the importance of international collaboration in AI advancement, stating, “Through this collaboration with CEA and leading French engineers, we aim to bring cutting-edge AI research closer to real-world applications by advancing system architectures that meet the demands of tomorrow’s AI workloads, while growing the joint research and development opportunities between the U.S. and France.”

Julie Galland, Director of the Technological Research division at CEA, highlighted the commitment to innovation and energy efficiency: “Our collaboration with AMD represents a significant step toward fostering international cooperation in high-performance computing, bringing together world-class expertise to address the growing demands of AI workloads. By combining CEA’s research leadership with AMD’s cutting-edge technology, we aim to develop breakthrough solutions that will shape the future of AI computing in Europe and beyond.”

This collaboration underscores AMD’s commitment to promoting international partnerships to accelerate AI innovation, enhance its inclusivity and sustainability, and strengthen ties between the United States and European research institutions. The partnership between AMD and CEA signifies a significant step towards a future of more powerful and energy-conscious AI technologies.
