Ubisoft has confirmed that the upcoming video game Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be on a smaller and more “intimate” scale.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a tribute to the original Assassin’s Creed according to Ubisoft Bordeaux and will take place in 9th-century Baghdad. The gameplay will be focused again on parkour, stealth, and assassinations, just like in the old days.
“Mirage’s creation has been the convergence of several inputs,” creative director Stéphane Boudon told GamesRadar in an interview. “Of course, the first one comes from our community: Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla they are all great games with the promise to live an epic journey in a strong fantasy. Their scopes have been calibrated to fulfill those ambitions as they all embrace the RPG mechanics.”
According to Boudon, several fans started to share that they wanted to have a story that is focused more on one character, particularly from one of the core pillars of the first Assassin’s Creed games on a more intimate scale. “It resonates with us as well as developers and this was the starting point of the project,” he said.
The creative director explained that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will have a more condensed scope and a clear focus on Basin and his coming-of-age story. Players will have total immersion in 9th-century Baghdad and the key events of the time for the Hidden Ones. It will be a standalone experience that everyone could enjoy, he said.
Fans of the Assassin’s Creed franchises, new and old, will expect some big changes coming to the stealth tools like the smoke bomb and throwing knives. New upgrades will allow players to reinvent themselves to fit perfectly with their own playstyles.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage launches sometime in 2023. It will be available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5.
