One question that some people might have asked themselves, which includes me, is “What does it feel like to be a god?”. Crest is a god-game, survival, strategy pc game developed by Eat Create Sleep. In this game, you will become an indirect god, which means that you will not directly tell the people what to do or appear in front of them but rather manifest your commandments only through signs. The set-up is more of a stone-age era where people are hunting for food to survive and creating a community from scratch. Your commandment would be a huge factor as to how your followers live their lives.

In the game, you will start off with 3 islands with just one community or the game calls it “City” in one of the islands. You will need to give the first commandment as advised in the tutorial. A commandment is composed of a condition, an action, and a target. You will be able to create multiple cities in all three islands depending on the commandments you give to your people. As you progress into the game, you will unlock more words(signs) that you will be using in creating a commandment. You don’t have to worry when the tutorial ends as there will be advisers who are able to give you tips on how to handle your cities. You will need 4 influence points to give one commandment to your people. An influence point replenishes overtime, in some game, it’s called “Energy” or “Hearts”.
You will also be given a bonus influence point if you have more faithful cities. The more you give a commandment that makes a city happy, the more you get faithful cities. A faithful city will create a monument that makes the city happier and has more chances to survive. Faithless cities will most likely deteriorate and won’t be able to last long. You can see each city’s needs by clicking the city itself, so it’s all up to your commandments as to how a city survives based on those needs. For example, if a city is craving for children, you can command a city to produce children and you will see hearts floating above the followers while they’re dancing. There are also wars that may occur between cities in which you may need to intervene by giving a commandment which will lessen city wars.
Let’s talk about the things I like about the game. First, is the graphics. I like the graphics of the game. It has a 3D polygon graphics design. It looks like Minecraft but smoother and made of polygons. For me, the game graphics match the gameplay of the game. It’s like that feeling when your shirt matches your trousers. Second is the game’s music, it is nice and calming. It’s a mix of percussion, acoustic, and electro music. The third would be the user interface of the game. It’s intuitive and each button has an icon that can help you easily understand what’s it for. The fourth is that you can pause the game, save your progress and continue at a later time. Last but not the least, is the fact that you don’t need a high-end computer to play the game. You can play it on a low-end gaming computer.
Now, let’s talk about things I didn’t like about the game. I didn’t like the lack of “words”(signs) in creating a commandment. It would be better if a player can give more variety of commandments as it has a big factor in the game. For example, a city should be able to save a dying city by sending people to help the dying city out of its misery. I also didn’t like that there are only three small islands as it would be much better to have more and bigger islands.
Overall, the game is good. I would recommend this game to my friends and family. It’s a casual game in which a lot of my friends who are busy with their life can enjoy without really spending too much time in the game as they can pause and play it.
