CD Projekt RED has recently announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has hit a big new sales milestone and has outpaced The Witcher 3.
According to President and CEO Adam Kicinski in a recent CDPR Investor Day presentation, Cyberpunk 2077 has now surpassed 25 million units sold. This new milestone has made it outpace the company’s previous big hit, The Witcher 3. It was also revealed that Cyberpunk 2077’s new expansion Phantom Liberty has sold three million units within its first week alone.
Kicinski stated that Cyberpunk 2077 has surprisingly made a big comeback despite its disastrous launch and even got delisted from the PlayStation Store at one time. Now, it has outpaced The Witcher 3’s performance in terms of sales.
Cyberpunk 2077 reached 25 million sales within around two years and 10 months. The Witcher 3, however, did not reach 25 million copies sold until around four and a half years later. It sold 28 million units in December 2019, which was around four years and seven months after launch.
There were also data for the sales of Phantom Liberty expansion, which was 68 percent sold copies on PC, 20 percent sold copies on PS5, and 13 percent sold copies on Xbox Series X/S. CDPR revealed that the expansion cost approximately $62.7 million to develop and approximately $21.6 million to market.
