CD Projekt RED is warning Cyberpunk 2077 PC players to double-check their PC rigs before installing and launching the upcoming expansion.
The upcoming new expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, Phantom Liberty, is launching soon. It is expected to offer tons of new content, lots of improvements, new gameplay mechanics, weaponry, gear, characters, a brand new location, and so much more. Its expansion installation size was also revealed in an early leak, so it is speculated to offer hefty new content for fans to enjoy. Those improvements do come with a price and CDPR is warning players to prepare for it.
Lead Scene Programmer Filip Pierściński posted on Twitter to warn players playing on PC to check their cooling systems first before installing the expansion.
“We use all that you have, so workload on CPU 90% on 8 core is expected,” Pierściński said. “To save your time please run Cinebench or similar and check stability of your systems.”
For those uninitiated, Cinebench is a free cross-platform test software that will check the computer hardware setup’s capabilities. Pierściński specifically mentions the cooling systems because the game might hit “thermal throttling” which could result in poor performance or even crashes.
PC players might have to change some settings or even upgrade to new hardware to keep up with the game’s performance with the new expansion.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty launches on September 26, 2023 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
