CD Projekt RED recently shared a new video revealing the new Cyberpunk 2077 Ray Tracing Overdrive Mode which paints Night City in a whole new “light.”
According to the new video shared by IGN, the new Ray Tracing Overdrive Mode for Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on April 11, 2023 for PC. It will bring full ray tracing, which is also known as path tracing to the game. The video states that the demo is shown in it showcases path tracing, which is an advanced, GPU-intensive form of ray tracing that accurately simulates light throughout the entire scene.
CDPR explains that previous techniques would separately address ray-traced shadows, reflections, and global illumination for a small number of light sources. This new Overdrive Mode models ALL properties of light from an unlimited number of emissive sources. This results in physically correct shadows, reflections, and global illumination on all objects. In other words, the lighting, shadows, and reflections with this technique are now closer to reality. Almost.
The video was captured on GeForce RTX 4090 at 4K with DLSS 3 enabled. It will blow your mind.
An area that was previously dimly lit only with the basic ray tracing technology is now fully lit with this new technique and it looks similar to reality when sunlight comes into a room. It almost looks like a room from reality rather than a game that you would need to make a double take on the image.
Cyberpunk 2077 Ray Tracing Overdrive Mode will be available for PC on April 11, 2023.
