Diablo 4 Helltide Mystery Chest Locations

Helltide Mystery Chests, also known as just Mystery Chests or Tortured Gift of Mysteries, are special chests that show up in certain areas in Sanctuary. These chests have the chance to give out multiple legendary items, so knowing when and where to find them is definitely essential when farming for gear.

Read ahead as we share all of the known locations of the Helltide Mystery Chests in Diablo 4.

How to obtain Helltide Mystery Chests

Mystery Chests will only start appearing in the world after completing the main campaign, after completing The Helltide Rises quest from Doomsayer Pira, and once you head into World Tier 3: Nightmare. These chests only have a chance of appearing in known spots within Sanctuary during a Helltide event and will only appear if you get close enough to where they are. What makes it more difficult is that they are not marked on the map until they are found, unlike the other lesser Tortured Gift chests. They can be opened in exchange for 175 Aberrant Cinders which can be obtained by killing enemies during the event.

Helltide events happen once every 2 hours and 15 minutes, and they last for an hour. You can use third-party websites that track down the next event spawn, or you can simply look at the map. You will see an area of the map stained red and a red sword marker, indicating the place where the Helltide event is currently happening. You can also check on the marker to see how much time is left for that current event.

It’s best to have enough Aberrant Cinders in your inventory in case you stumble upon a chest. However, it’s best to note that if you die while holding cinders, you will lose a significant number of them.

    Helltide Mystery Chest Locations

There are currently 35 known locations where the mystery chests can show up.

Why search for Helltide Mystery Chests?

The Mystery Chests currently have a high chance of dropping legendary gear, potentially 3-5 pieces of legendary gear per chest, making it a good activity to add to the endgame grind. They also drop a good amount of high-tier crafting materials which can be used to further upgrade pieces of gear.

    Helltide Mystery Chest Respawn

Currently, there is a way for players to be able to actually double the amount of chests that they can open during a single Helltide event, and that is by waiting for them to respawn once more.

Usually, there are 2-3 Mystery Chests that spawn within the Helltide area during the event depending on the area. Chests actually respawn every hour, so if a Helltide event goes over the hour (e.g.: 1pm, 4pm, 7pm, etc.), all opened and unopened chests will respawn since the current Helltide event has not ended yet. With this in mind, it’s best to look out for event times that start just around 30-45 minutes before an hour (e.g.: 12:15 pm or 12:30 pm) to give yourself enough time to go to the chest spawn spots and open the chests before the chests respawn.
