Diablo 4 Legendary Items and Codes of Power Detailed

Blizzard has recently shared new details of Diablo 4 Legendary Items and the Codes of Power feature.

In the latest Developer Update Stream, Diablo 4 Game Director Joe Shely and Associate Game Director Joseph Piepiora discuss details about the upcoming video game focusing on how the Legendary Items are being handled. This time the Codex of Power is now the new way how Legendary Items work as it becomes a catalog of Legendary Aspects.

According to the two execs, the Codex of Power allows players to choose from a catalog of Legendary Aspects. These can then be imbued on a piece of equipment they want to improve on. There are still equipment and weapons that will drop on the ground, but Legendary Items are now gone. They can now UNLOCK these Legendary Aspects by completing certain dungeons for the first time. Note that this is not the only way to unlock these powers but the video did not show this.

After unlocking their preferred Legendary Aspects, players can go back to town to find the Occultist shop. They can hand off their equipment to the shop owner and let them imbue the item with the Legendary Aspect of their choosing. This will change the playstyle of the players and finally cut off the curse of Diablo 3, which was the random drops in every dungeon raid.

It was made clear that Barbarians can use Legendary Aspects for the Druid or Necromancer, but at a later time. It works both ways as long as the characters’ stats allow it.

Diablo 4 launches on June 6, 2023 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
