Usually in the Far Cry series, players are always the center of attention since their guns are always out in the open and enemies automatically recognize them. Yes, there was a stealth mechanic, but the protagonists needed to hide behind a wall, bushes, or somewhere beyond enemy sight. In Far Cry 6, however, a new mechanic has been introduced.
Ubisoft Toronto Lead Gameplay Designer David Grivel recently shared some good news to media outlet VGC in an interview about this new mechanic that they introduced in the game.
Since in Yara, the protagonist is joining a guerilla group, they need to blend in with the people. In order to do that, they do not need to stand out, which is why Grivel revealed players can now holster and hide their guns while in public. They need to pass as a civilian so guns should be out of sight.
Grivel continues:
Now you can holster your gun and that gives you two things: One, if you want to explore the world and just go fishing or walk across the world, holster your gun and you know no one will start shooting at you. But it also gives you the agency to finally start conflict when you want to start conflict, not when the game decides it for you.
The simple ability to holster guns introduces a lot of opportunities for players this time around in the Far Cry universe. They can now make surprise attacks in the middle of a secure site and start a conflict there with a huge advantage. They can start an ambush together with the rest of the group while hiding in plain sight. It might even save them after running away.
Far Cry 6 launches on October 7 for PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
