It is no exaggeration to say that Hollow Knight Silksong is one of the most anticipated sequels on the Nintendo Switch since it was first confirmed back in 2019. Oddly enough, the game that would eventually be called ‘Silksong’ started off as an expansion for Team Cherry’s hit 2D Metroidvania, Hollow Knight. Since then though, fans have waited and waited for any updates on the game. Yet updates for the game are few and far in between.
And that’s where events like Indie World come in. It is during this time that hope and speculation are at an all-time high. Fans know if anything Silksong-related is going to be announced, it’s going to be an Indie showcase, and what can be bigger than one hosted by Nintendo? Unfortunately, no official word about the game was made for the event proper. But a statement given by Team Cherry a couple of weeks ago after it won the ‘Most Anticipated Game’ award in the 2021 Unity Awards has given fans some semblance of hope that Silksong may be closer than we think, surely!
“We’re honored that Hollow Knight Silksong won the 2021 Unity Award for the most anticipated game, and hugely appreciate all of the fans who support us as we work on the game. Thank you so much. We’re looking forward to the day we can share the game with you all. It can’t be too much longer, surely!”
Team Cherry
“It can’t be too much longer, surely!” This is the kind of cheeky remark that would spark hope in a community that’s already starving for more Silksong content. Ok! So, maybe the wording is a little too vague. Can you blame them? Team Cherry doesn’t have a complete roster of developers. It’s just 3 guys working on something they love very much.
In fact, their bio says it all:
“We’re a team of 3 people who, alongside making the game, are responsible for building these websites, cutting those game trailers, posting regular game updates, answering questions on social media, and much more.”
Look, expectations are unreasonably high, especially because this is Hollow Knight we are talking about. And that bar is set so high that anything less than excellent can be seen as a failure by the community.
Are we going to have another update… soon? How about an estimated release window? These are the kinds of questions we all want to have an answer to. And hopefully Team Cherry can answer those questions sooner than later. For now, fans will have to make do with crumbs.
Look on the bright side. We are still in the first half of the year so the devs still have plenty of time to prepare something for the game. Anything at all. Surely, more updates will be coming out this year.
Yet fans continue to wait with bated breath for any updates on the game. But hope still remains post-Indie World Showcase. There’s always a chance for a surprise announcement out of the blue.
Hollow Knight Silksong is set to release on Nintendo Switch and PC (via Steam, GOG, and Humble Store). No other details have been released.
