LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga Online Multiplayer & Split Screen Co-op

LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga Multiplayer and Online Co-op

Some LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga fans are unclear if the new game is multiplayer or not now that it has been released. You may wonder if you can play the game with a friend, or if you can jump into their adventures, as you explore the Worlds in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Cooperative play is possible in any part of the game, but how to do so may not be immediately clear. We’ve got you covered on things you need to know about online multiplayer and split screen co-op in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Is LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga Multiplayer

Is LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga Multiplayer?

Yes, there is multiplayer in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga but only in the form of local co-op. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will have local split-screen multiplayer co-op, according to TT Games.

As a result, many people who were hoping to play the latest LEGO Star Wars game with their friends online were surprised to learn this. It’s not unexpected that online co-op isn’t supported, given that most LEGO games don’t. However, the lack of it is unfortunate, as having both a local and an online option would have been preferable.

How many players can play in LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga?

Only 2 players can play on split-screen co-op multiplayer mode in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Even back when the game was first announced for release in 2019, the developer disclosed that two players will be able to participate in the entire experience jointly. And as per the PlayStation store, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is only between 1-2 players.

How to Play Couch Co-op Split Screen in LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga?

Will LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga have online multiplayer?

Unfortunately, like most of the other LEGO Star Wars games, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga does not have an online co-op nor any competitive online multiplayer feature. Despite their excellent gameplay mechanics, most LEGO games do not support multiplayer, leaving just local co-op as a viable choice for those who want to play with a group of friends.

In the past, online multiplayer was made possible in LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga and LEGO Indiana Jones 2. So a lot of players are still hopeful that TT Games will implement an online multiplayer co-op mode after the game’s release, even though no official announcements were made.

For now, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is playable in couch co-op, but if you want to play with others online, you’ll require third-party softwares which we will further discuss below.

How to play LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga online multiplayer co-op on PC?

There are 2 ways to play LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga online multiplayer co-op on PC. Do note that these do not come with the game’s functionality but through third-party software instead, as workarounds:

  1. Steam Remote Play. To play online multiplayer using Steam Remote Play, you and your companion must both have up-to-date Steam accounts. Both of you must also own LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga in order for this to work, and follow the instructions:
    • Log-in to Steam, make sure your Steam client is up-to-date.
    • Open Steam overlay (Shift + Tab)
    • Invite your buddy to join you in a Remote Play session by clicking on their name.
  2. Parsec. Another method is Parsec, a third-party tool, which allows players to host sessions and invite others to participate. In order to create a lobby, you’ll need to use the same software as the other party, and follow the instructions:
    • Install Parsec
    • Launch LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
    • Open the Parsec App, then choose “Arcade”
    • Start Hosting LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
    • You’ll be able to invite your friends after hosting a session.
    • You’ll need to make your session private if you don’t want anyone else to join.

Is Parsec available on consoles?

Parsec is only available for Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and Raspbian. But since Microsoft Windows has a remote play feature for Xbox consoles, and PS Remote Play if you want to control your PS4 or PS5 on your PC, you can set-up a remote play session on a PC with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga on Xbox or PlayStation, and follow the same instructions above.

There is no guarantee that this would work or if the performance will be optimal if ever it does. The trouble with remote play will always be input lag and other connectivity issues. But Parsec supports both Xbox and Playstation Controllers just like Steam.

Our journey to the LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s multiplayer features comes to an end here. Here’s to hoping that TT Games may add a true online multiplayer feature soon. If any new multiplayer modes or ways are added to LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga, we’ll be sure to update this page!
