People Can Fly have noted that their video game Outriders has not gained any profits in 2021.
After Square Enix has announced that it has sold most of its IPs to the Embracer Group and only kept three of them, another bombshell has erupted. It seems the Japanese publisher cannot take a break from the bad luck they are having. Life is Strange franchise is quite popular and a lot are getting most of its titles, Just Cause is already iconic due to its hilarious physics and gameplay, but the new IP from People Can Fly, Outriders, is not doing so well.
Last year, People Can Fly reported that it did not gain any royalties from the game they developed, Outriders. They revealed that there were some issues with the profitability of the game.
This time around, People Can Fly shared a new financial report that confirmed that Outriders did not gain any profits at all last year, which was its launch year, of all things. According to the developers, the costs of development, marketing, and distribution for the game has not recovered yet since Square Enix has yet to make revenue that could exceed them. It is still insufficient and so the developers have not received any royalties from Square Enix.
It was plain to see that the game was not profitable at all since it failed to impress players. To make things worse that it is already, People Can Fly is already convinced that the game will continue to be not profitable at all in the future and the publisher will not be able to recover the costs. In short, no money will be coming to them.
It is interesting to see what will happen to Square Enix and what it will do to recover after their recent decision of selling IPs and studios.
Outriders is now available on PC, SP4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
