In a recent Chinese New Year greetings video, Sony Interactive Entertainment China will be releasing PlayStation 5 units in the country within this year.
Niko Partners Senior Analyst Daniel Ahmad recently posted on his official Twitter account about this announcement. It was confirmed that SIE China has plans to officially launch the PS5 in Mainland China during Q2 2021.
The ones who announced it in a Chinese New Year greetings video were SIE Shanghai President Tatsuo Eguchi and Vice Chairman Soeda Takehito. This will now make it official despite maybe some Chinese gamers already having their own PS5 consoles imported from elsewhere.
The hardware was originally approved for sale back in December and now the final preparations are currently underway. This includes the relevant approval of software. Ahmad predicts that the PS5 launch will be faster compared to the PS4 which launched in China in March 2015.
The PlayStation 5 unit that will launch in Q2 2021 will be the official Mainland China version. It will have online services region lock at launch.
