Game company Sony Interactive Entertainment recently released its latest spot The Edge on its officially YouTube channel.
The new ad shows a man in a fishing boat riding out to sea, but suddenly he is transported into a fantasy type of setting. It then shows other water and this time flying vessels. He then pushes through the large body water together with this mighty fleet. After going through a seemingly invisible barrier, they freely glide through an empty space and the popular phrase “Play Has No Limits” is seen.
Global Head of Marketing Eric Lempel talked to Variety about this new spot about its purpose. He said that it is to “evoke some of the feelings you would get from PlayStation 5.”
It’s really just talking about who we are as a brand and exciting and thrilling our fans. We want to excite and thrill you. We want to show them a path to the mysterious unknown… what you’re seeing is them coming to the edge and then going beyond. And really, that’s what we’re trying to signal here. It’s not about the features. It’s a brand spot.
Lempel also notes that everyone will be seeing these a lot of the games start to play into these campaigns very quickly. This was also shot before the global pandemic had shut down most of the productions and studios.
PlayStation 5 will launch this coming holidays 2020. A new PS5 showcase event will be happening this coming Wednesday, Sept. 16. It will hopefully reveal the launch date and pricing at that time.
