In a recent online call with game industry personality Geoff Keighley, Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney claimed that the PlayStation 5 storage system could change games as we know it.
PlayStation 5 storage system another level
The online call originally focused more on the latest reveal of a real-time demo of the Unreal Engine 5 running on the PS5. Epic Games CTO Kim Libreri officially confirmed that on the all and it was actually a live game code that can be played on PS5 development system.
Sweeney then makes an interjection to talk about what the Unreal Engine 5’s true potential could have for the PS5. He stated that the storage system of the console is world-class. He even claims that it is best on any platform and even better than a high-end PC.
With that said, Sweeney shared that with this new storage system the loading screens will be gone in the future. No more popping up of geometry as players go through game environments just because of this new piece of hardware. He is confident that with the Unreal Engine 5, the development landscape will change forever.
Seeing the actual demo, his claims can become true. The amount of pixels in just one shot is phenomenal and the lighting tech is outstanding that it could change the development of games.
