Media outlet Bloomberg recently reported that SIE has unfortunately confirmed that the issues for supply will only continue and that goes through 2022. Also, they are not confident that it will not go away any time soon.

“I don’t think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldn’t be able to catch up with demand,” SIE Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki shared during a briefing after the latest financial results were released in public. “We have sold more than 100 million units of the PlayStation 4 and considering our market share and reputation, I can’t imagine demand dropping easily.”

Previously, SIE promised that they will produce more units later on with plans of up to 14.8 million consoles. This was to match the demand starting last month, but more issues have been discovered. One of them is the supply for semiconductor materials, which are highly needed to produce the inner workings of the PS5. Another issue is the rise of demand for the units and SIE thinks it will not die anytime soon.

It is unfortunate, but PS5 fans will have to face the reality that it will be difficult to procure said units in the future. It is probable that demand will slow down in 2023 and fortunately that will be the time we can all see PS5 units on shelves.
