PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) massive success shaped the entire battle royale genre’s landscape, thus inspiring games such as Fortnite and Apex Legends. However, even with its huge player-base, this didn’t stop the upcoming closure of its free-to-play, low-spec’ed PC version PUBG Lite.
On March 30, a notice page was put up on the official PUBG Lite website, stating that it’s going to take down the lite.pubg.com domain to halt any future downloads, with April 29, 2021, at 5:00 AM (UTC) as the last day of the game’s support.
According to the official notice, the team behind PUBG Lite had to make this decision after “much deliberation”. There were no further details explaining why they had come to such a decision to close down PUBG Lite.
Here’s the full notice below:
“We are deeply grateful for the passion and support from the astounding number of PUBG LITE fans that have been with us. During the strenuous times of the COVID-19 pandemic, we hope that PUBG LITE was able to provide our fans a fun way to stay safe.”
“Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to close service after much deliberation and the time has come for our journey to end. We regretfully inform you that service of PUBG LITE is scheduled to end on April 29th, 2021 (UTC).”
