Koei Tecmo Game Producer Hisashi Koinuma recently shared some interesting details about the upcoming game Samurai Warriors 5, particularly the reason for the big change.
Koinuma recently revealed in an interview that the biggest reason for them to change the visuals for this new iteration is because they wanted to “rewrite the first title.” This led them to the decision to actually re-imagine everything in the series. What this entail? Of course, it would include the story, action system, characters, and the art and visual style.
The producer described the new re-imagined look of SW5 as somewhat like an “illustration that incorporated aspects of Japanese ink paintings.” What they wanted was an art style that looked dynamic but also detailed and this is the one that they were looking for. It was a whole different visual compared to its predecessors.
Koinuma revealed that aside from their inspiration of Japanese ink paintings, they were also inspired by different games that had somewhat similar visuals as well.
SW5 has indeed evolved into this new look and it looks fantastic and fresh. It is the same game, but with a different look, which is a good thing.
Samurai Warriors 5 launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on July 27.
