Sharp’s New LCD Display Production Hints at Nintendo’s Big Plans

Sharp's new product could be related to a future device from Nintendo!

Japanese Electronics Company Sharp has recently shared information that it is currently making new LCD displays for a mystery new console.

Sharp CEO Robert Wu recently spoke in an earnings call (via Bloomberg) that the company will be launching pilot LCD panel production lines for a certain new device. This will be delivered in its current fiscal year which ends in March 2024.

“I can’t comment on any details regarding specific customers. But as to a new gaming console, we’ve been involved in its R&D stage,” he told analysts.

While Wu did not specifically say the console, it is clear that it is related to Nintendo. Sharp has a long history of working together with Nintendo like providing LCD displays for old handhelds like the DS consoles. It could be involved in the most rumored upcoming console, the next Nintendo Switch model.

Nintendo itself has not announced a successor to the Nintendo Switch even though it has already gotten to its seventh year. It is now ripe to develop a successor for their flagship console after a long time. This new announcement could be it.
