Shenmue III Enhanced is officially back in the spotlight, with new details confirmed alongside the game’s first trailer.
The upgraded version is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, with the Switch 2 release also getting a full physical cartridge edition. Pre-orders for the standard, special, and collector’s editions are now live, although an exact release date hasn’t been revealed yet.
The newly released trailer gives players their first look at the enhanced version in action, along with a message from series creator Yu Suzuki.
Interestingly, while the announcement brings plenty of details about Shenmue III Enhanced, the actual release date is still being held back, something that will likely be revealed in the coming weeks.

The enhanced version focuses on improving performance and overall gameplay while still keeping the original experience intact.
Some of the key upgrades include:
- Improved graphics, smoother performance, and faster load times
- 4K texture enhancements for environments and characters
- DLSS and FSR support
- Increased NPC density in Niaowu
- Optional classic camera mode
- Gameplay tweaks for smoother progression
- Quality-of-life improvements like skip options and UI updates
Notably, most of these changes are optional, meaning players can choose between a modernized experience or something closer to the original.

This version looks like an effort to make Shenmue III more accessible without losing what made it unique in the first place.
Between the visual upgrades and quality-of-life improvements, it could be a good entry point for new players, while still giving longtime fans the option to stick with the classic feel.
With more details expected soon, especially the release date, this is likely just the start of a bigger rollout.
