Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has addressed the release date for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, expressing high confidence in its current schedule while also teasing that the developer has more in the works.
In a recent interview with CNBC, Zelnick tackled the topic of a potential second delay for GTA 6, which was previously pushed from a Fall 2025 window to May 26, 2026. When asked about the new date, Zelnick stated his “level of conviction is very, very high.”
This statement is intended to reassure both investors and the millions of fans awaiting the game. However, Zelnick also reiterated Rockstar Games’ core philosophy, which is the ultimate reason any delay would occur: the “search for perfection.”
“Rockstar’s whole stock-in-trade is to have these extraordinary expectations, and still to beat them,” Zelnick explained, acknowledging the immense pressure on the studio. “I know that’s their goal.” This reinforces the idea that if the game needs more time to meet Rockstar’s quality standards, the company will take it.
Perhaps the most intriguing part of the discussion was Zelnick’s hint about the studio’s future pipeline. While confirming that GTA 6 is the “primary focus,” he revealed that Rockstar isn’t a one-project studio.
“Rockstar does have a lot of other things going on,” Zelnick said, though he offered no specifics.
This is a significant comment. After a long wait since Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018, the confirmation that other projects are in development alongside GTA 6 suggests the wait for Rockstar’s next title after their return to Vice City may not be as long. For now, all eyes remain on May 2026.
