Take-Two CEO Defends Price for Red Dead Redemption on New Platforms

It's all due to new modern platforms and as a bundle.

Take-Two CEO and Chairman Strauss Zelnick states that the price for Red Dead Redemption on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch is accurate.

Red Dead Redemption PS4 and Switch Price Accurate

After Rockstar Games announced the release of Red Dead Redemption on PS4 and Nintendo Switch on August 17, 2023, fans were disappointed that it was neither a remake nor a remaster of the original. They were disappointed further though after learning the fact that the game will be priced at $49.99 which included the Undead Nightmare DLC. They thought it was unfair that a very old game is priced that way, especially since it was just only ported to other platforms.

Reason for Price Point

Media outlet IGN asked Zelnick for the reason for the game’s given price point. The game was already available on Xbox via Backwards Compatibility for only $29.99 and with Undead Nightmare for $9.99 only.

“That’s just what we believe is the commercially accurate price for it”, Zelnick replied.

Take-Two EVP of Finance Hannah Sage pointed out that the Switch and PS4 versions also included Undead Nightmare, but Zelnick added some other notes to make it clear. He says that the DLC “was a great standalone game in its own right when it was originally released, so we feel like it’s a great bundle for the first time, and certainly a great value for consumers”.

Red Dead Redemption launches on PS4 and Nintendo Switch digitally this coming August 17, 2023. Physical copies will be available on October 13, 2023.
