Blizzard has officially confirmed that Diablo IV currently has two expansions in the works.
By now, many players have already completed the story of Diablo IV with Early Access. While it is not that short, a lot of players like to complete the narrative as quickly as possible to go forward with the end game. Still, fans would want more content than the base game itself and expansions would be the best way to introduce a continuation of the story, new gameplay mechanics, new gear, and more. Fortunately, Blizzard is already cooking up two expansions ahead of time.
Diablo IV Expansions Confirmed
Speaking with Kinda Funny Games in an interview, Diablo General Manager Rod Fergusson has officially confirmed that the team is now working on two expansions. He revealed, “As I sit here we’re about to launch the main game, we’re finishing up season one, we’re working on season two, we’re working on expansion one, we’re kicking off expansion two…we’re working on that now and we haven’t even launched the game.”
Live-Service to Offer More Substantial Content
Fergusson also revealed that the live-service format of the game would offer more substantial content to be included over time in seasons compared to what happened in Diablo III. In one of his previous interviews, he revealed that the expansions will have narrative questlines and richer context around the seasons. Diablo III was centered on adding mechanics and balancing them.
Diablo IV Already Way Ahead of Predecessors
Diablo IV is already way ahead of its predecessors in terms of the number of expansions, Diablo II and Diablo III only had one. Both did get continuous support via patches and other content updates. Blizzard has also confirmed that Diablo IV will be updated for many years post-launch and there is already a robust roadmap going forward. The latest entry seems to keep getting new content for fans to enjoy for a long time.
Diablo IV is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
