For many months, JRPG fans of both FFVII and the Kingdom Hearts series have been wondering what the latest updates are on their developments. Recently, on the FFVII Ever Crisis 2nd Anniversary Broadcast, Tetsuya Nomura revealed that things are going quite smoothly for the development of both FFVI Remake Part 3, and the Kingdom Hearts IV.
In a livestream, Nomura said and quote,
“Right, so, looking at the comments, I’m seeing people ask every so often about the third entry in the [Final Fantasy VII] Remake series. Apparently, [co-director Motomu] Toriyama mentioned in an interview that something might be released around the second anniversary [of Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis]. So that’s probably where those expectations are coming from. Right, so things are progressing really smoothly.
I can’t really say more—if I suddenly went, ‘Well, actually…,’ everyone would be really surprised! So yeah, things are moving along really smoothly, and the release timing has already been decided. We’re moving forward according to that schedule right now, so please rest assured and be patient.
And this has also come up in the comments here and there, but Kingdom Hearts IV is likewise steadily moving forward according to schedule, so please look forward to it.”
In 2022, Square Enix announced Kingdom Hearts IV, and updates for this game have been stagnant; the only consistent news that has been confirmed is that the game will be developed in a new Unreal Engine and will have a different set of villains. Then, later in May 2025, Square Enix revealed a sneak peek of screenshots that show they are developing the game and showed a short message from the team to the audience.
For the Final Fantasy VII Remake, the developers have just revealed that FFVII Remake Intergrade will be having a Switch 2 version coming out soon, and there is a chance that Rebirth will follow soon. For part 3, no news has been revealed, but there might be a chance that an announcement trailer will be revealed either at TGS 2025 or at the end of the year.
