In anticipation of Space Marine 2’s imminent release next week, the folks over at Saber Interactive revealed their plans for the first year of the game post-release. In a community update from the developer’s website, a graphic can be seen showing what we can expect in the following months up until late 2025.
Please take note that this calender of events is subject to change on the part of the developers. To keep up to date with the lastest changes to the game, be sure to follow us and the developers.
As shown in the graphic above, Season 1 starts immediately after the game’s release. During this time, we can expect to have Ultrawide Support added to the game for PC players. I am surprised that the game was late in getting ultrawide support. This is probably due to technical issues. We will also get a sparring arena inside the battle barge. This is going to be a good way to showcase our newest abilities and weapon adjustments.
Season 1’s season pass will include the Ultramarines’ successor chapters cosmetic pack. Very fitting for the long-awaited sequel to the original game.
Season 2 is slated to start in late October. It looks like we will all be getting new PvE missions, Lethal Difficulty, and the new Neo Volkite Pistol. Lethal difficulty should be a welcome addition for players looking to take on missions worthy of a Deathwatch kill team. I am so pleased to have another pistol in the game. The pickings are already slim as they already are.
For the season pass, we will be getting cosmetic packs in the theme of the Dark Angels Chapter of the Space Marines. It’ll be a toss-up to see who is loyal to the Emperor and who has fallen to chaos.
We are also expecting a new enemy in this season as well. But temper expectations, Marines! The graphic states a new enemy, not a new enemy faction! Chances are it will be a new elite unit for the Tyranids.
Season 3 is set to release early next year and should constitute the biggest addition to the game in terms of content. Apart from the usual PvE and PvP additions, we are getting prestige ranks in PvE. Players who love chasing after that endless level grind will love this update the most. I hope there will be cosmetics tied to how many times a Marine has prestige. That would be the icing on the cake, for sure.
I’m really excited about the battle barge expansion. We don’t know what that implies at the moment, but anything new to the current battle barge will be a huge shake-up to the game as we know it.
For the season pass, it looks like are getting two chapters’ worth of cosmetics. I hope it is the Imperial Fists or, dare I say it, the Sons of Horus. There also seems to be something more in the works as well. We’ll post about it when the developers make the announcement.
And finally, Season 4 will see the addition of Horde Mode, a new enemy, and a new weapon. This is the same team behind World War Z, so I am confident in their ability to pull off a Horde Mode.
This covers everything set for the first year after Space Marine’s 2 release. If we consider the developer’s support for World War Z, Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine will be getting more updates in the coming years. Do keep in mind that the bulk of the additions are centered around the game’s PvE mode. The PvP mode is fun to have, and may even grow its own cult following, but it is clear that the game’s central focus is on the PvE content.
Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 is set to be released on September 9th, 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam). Players who pre-order the game’s Gold or Ultimate edition will get early access to the game starting on September 4th.
