Developer Windrose Crew has released a playable demo for Windrose as part of Steam Next Fest, giving players an early look at the upcoming open-world pirate survival adventure.
The demo offers a slice of Windrose’s core gameplay, combining exploration, crafting, combat, and naval mechanics across both land and sea. Players can dive into the experience solo or team up with others in co-op multiplayer for up to four players, offering a more collaborative approach to the pirate adventure.
According to the developers, the demo includes four to six hours of content, featuring onboarding quests, early progression systems, and access to a large ship. Players will also be able to explore three islands within the game’s first major biome while engaging with a variety of gameplay systems.
Windrose blends survival mechanics with Souls-lite combat, allowing players to use both melee and ranged weapons while dodging and countering enemy attacks. The demo also introduces naval combat and ship boarding, alongside resource gathering and base building elements that will carry over into the full game.
The title continues to build momentum ahead of its Early Access launch, currently ranking among the most wishlisted games on Steam. Windrose was previously known as Crosswind and has since evolved into a broader open-world experience with co-op gameplay at its core.
Players who try the demo ahead of the Early Access release will receive an exclusive decorative spyglass when the full version launches later this year.
Windrose is planned to release in Steam Early Access at a later date, with expanded content and additional features beyond what is currently available in the demo.
