The three gaming services were suddenly shut down for a few minutes to an hour, but it got online again after a certain DNS service got fixed. The Akamai Edge DNS Service had an outage and it was the cause of the gaming services to go offline. The service did send out a statement in regards to the issue:

We are actively investigating the issue. If you have questions or are experiencing impact due to this issue, please contact Akamai Technical Support. In the interest of time, we are providing you the most current information available, which is subject to changes, corrections, and updates.

Players could not play online games for a while and made them worry. Others complained on social media, while some just waited for it to be online again. It was just an hour though, but everything got back fine again. Xbox Live, PSN, and Steam were back to normal again.
