Whose side are you on? Every great hero has its arch enemy like Batman and Joker, Mario and Bowser, Kratos and Zeus, Naruto and Sasuke. In the world of Battle Royale style first-person shooter games, we have Epic Games’ Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
No worries. Here are defining factors each game has, so that you can pick which game to spend money and time.
We have the graphics each game has. It’s worth mentioning first because it is the biggest point of contention for these two games. If you’re into a more gritty, realistic theme, where you feel like an enemy might leap right at you from a corner, then that’s +1 for PUBG.
On the other hand, Fortnite showcases a lighter, more animated and laid back feel and less serious in a way. So, if you’re not into much tension and want more of a cheery facade then that’s a point for Fortnite.
Since both games look different, they also play differently. Not only that, the map size is also related to the gameplay. The map in PUBG is much larger than Fortnite. Along with the realistic feel, there is pressure to use your skills to use the environment around you. There are several minutes of quiet while being the hunter and the hunted. Due to the size, vehicles are available in PUBG because the map becomes smaller as the players become fewer. If your skills are more on sneaking around and using the terrain to your advantage, then PUBG has got your vote.
On the other hand, Fortnite has a small map which makes finding other players very easy. Instead of the sneaking around and trying to find your opponent, Fortnite allows you to create your environment. Fortnite uses a Build system so you can create structures to defend yourself even if the map is small. If being quick on your feet and being creative with your skills is more your thing, then Fortnite has got your point.
Another thing to realistically look at is platform and updates. As for platforms, Fortnite is available on the PS4, PC, Xbox One and Mac. PUBG is only available on Xbox One and PC.
It is important to remember that if you’re going to invest time and money into a game, you might want to make sure that your investment isn’t wasted. Which means, we need to look at how often the game is being updated, if the developer is banning hackers (let’s face it, if a game gets popular hackers follow too) and if they are fixing any reported glitches.
On this end, Fortnite is developed by Epic Games which is a bigger company so they are able to address things like lesser time to find players, faster load time when starting games and addressing in game bugs. As for PUBG, they are a start up and subsidiary of Bluehole so they are a very small company. They take time to update the game, address glitches and bugs, as well as make new content for the game.
Lastly, knowing that Fortnite was developed by a big company, Fortnite is actually free. The Battle Royale game mode is only an added feature to an already existing game called Fortnite Save the World which you will need to pay for, to be able to play it. As for PUBG, they’re a start up company so they really need the money. There is an upfront cost which varies on which country and platform you will decide to play on. A close friend of mine pointed out that you’re able to sell in game items through Steam, so you can at least earn back the money you’ve spent on the game while having fun.
Which game has got the most points for you? If you are still undecided, you can always check which game your friends are playing. If not, check with your local area on what tournaments they have for PUBG or Fortnite and go with that. As for me, I much prefer free games so Fortnite it is!
