Ubisoft to Open Philippine Studio in Q2 2016

French multinational video game developer and publisher Ubisoft is setting up a gaming studio in the Philippines. The company said the studio will be closely linked to their South East Asian hub in Singapore, with the founding team members moving across the Singapore studio to train the new team. Ubisoft Philippines will be spearheaded by Chip Go, a Ubisoft Executive hailing from Cagayan de Oro and a veteran of Ubisoft Singapore, and Oliver de Rotalier, who’s now the managing director of Singapore, Philippines, and Chengdu (China).

We will work with a local university to grow the industry needs,” de Rotalier said. “We’ll be crafting the right curriculum, helping students and projects, to quickly grow the next generation of game developers that fits the market in Philippines.” Ubisoft is partnering up with the University of De La Salle in Manila to set up this training program to focus on the development of AAA games.

Ubisoft is a leading creator, publisher and distributor of interactive entertainment and services, with a rich portfolio of world-renowned brands. The teams throughout Ubisoft’s worldwide network of studios and business offices are committed to delivering original and memorable gaming experiences across all popular platforms. Ubisoft Philippines is going to be the island nation’s first major gaming studio.

The studio will be based at Santa Rosa, Laguna. The company picked a location that offered a “unique quality of life”, in which Laguna is known for having schools, a recreational theme park, and compared to the country’s capital, Manila, it’s less crowded and more accessible.

Ubisoft Singapore is the company’s first studio in Southeast Asia that opened in 2008. The Philippine-based studio is going to be the second, and is targeted to open in the second quarter of 2016. Along with this news, Ubisoft also announced that they will initially be hiring 50 individuals to fill the positions of programmers, designers, project managers and artists.
