It’s a sad news for gaming, especially to the players who were expecting PlatinumGames’ anticipated action role-playing game, Scalebound, launch this year. Xbox One gamers are saddened with confirmation of their Xbox One exclusive’s cancellation status.
According to some sources that came from Eurogamer, big daddy Microsoft and developer PlatinumGames’ had some “issues” after Gamescom 2016. There were struggles in the development where the team is already behind schedule in terms of the game’s development.
What does this mean for Xbox One this year? As what the title mentioned, “slimmer”. There are only a handful of Xbox One exclusives coming out this year – Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, Sea of Thieves, Voodoo, and State of Decay 2.
Scalebound had a lot of potential and it surely caught a lot of gamers’ attention when it was revealed in E3. Xbox One is surely hit with its chance of having great exclusives this year, and that Sony is already ahead even more further.
Sony’s exclusives are already marching down in the first quarter of 2017 with Gravity Rush 2’s release on January 20 (reviews are out, by the way), Yakuza 0 on January 24 and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8, which is then going to be followed by Horizon: Zero Dawn, Nioh, and Nier: Automata.
It’s been a while since we saw a duo between man and a dragon. Scalebound’s gameplay, however, looked a bit flat in their demos but surely the story might have been really interesting.
PlatinumGames’ is also working on a PS4 title that will not be on Xbox One, Nier: Automata, and last year wasn’t also a good year for them. With their horrible release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan made Scalebound as one of their redemption from what happened with their flop titles. It seems that it’s not the case this time for PlatinumGames’.
Microsoft needs to have something to reveal this E3 or it might be a year that Scorpio’s hype will dwindle down due to the scarcity of exclusives.
