Third-person shooter/adventure games are already becoming a thing nowadays. All the more open-world based ones. It gives the typical gamer that feeling of freedom whenever they’re going out there and experiencing the adventure through the persona of the character they’re using. When I first saw this game’s trailer. It caught my attention right then and there. The intricacy of the story as well as the gameplay was different from all the other TPS-open-world games I’ve played so far.
Let’s go about some details of Guerilla Games’ new IP. Horizon: Zero Dawnis developed by Guerilla Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. They began developing the game since 2011, (yes, it has been THAT long) and will be releasing it next month to the general public for the PS4 console. The game revolves around Aloy voiced by Ashly Burch. A hunter-archer who lives in a world overrun by robots. Sheltered all her life she sets out to discover the wonders (and dangers) of the world she’s currently living in and possibly uncover the secrets it holds.
Based on the trailer that was released last year, mystery clouds an entire civilization disappearance which by the way was at the height of their excellence in terms of development. It gave off an ‘Atlantis-gone-missing’ type of vibe when I watched it, but of course I could be wrong for all we know, *wink*!
There are lots of things you can do with this game. May it be focusing on the main story line, getting bonus items/currency from side quests, or just simply getting lost in its completely immersive environment taking in the sights and sounds that it has to offer.
Aloy can maneuver melee, ranged and stealth tactics to capture and destroy prey for resources which makes the game all the more interesting for me. Yes, it has the Monster Hunter feel but how the game catches the player’s attention is pretty much different than that of the latter.
What makes me excited to get and play the game is that, first and foremost – I’m a sucker for these types of games (TPS+open-world combo). Plus I’m a natural hoarder, (lol). So that makes it all the more titillating for me.
That ‘prepping-for-a-rainy-day’ feeling that forces me to hunt monsters more, explore maps longer inspecting every nook and cranny before moving on to another area and develop better gear to be prepared for anything the game throws my way knows no end. I also love the feeling of non-stop grinding and the reward that it gives me right after. It’s so self-gratifying it’s almost orgasmic!
I’ve been playing lots of open-world games like The Witcher 3, The Division, FallOut 4, the Batman Arkham franchise and lately Final Fantasy XV. But this game was the only game that made me pre-order it ahead of time; and believe me, I don’t pre-order that much. In fact this is the very first game I’ve pre-ordered so far, and THAT’s how excited I am to own the game.
There’s something about HZD that seems different for me from the other games I’ve played. Of course, these assumptions are all just based from articles and videos uploaded on YouTube, but then again as what the developers have mentioned about the game being “the most risky idea” they’ve taken on, I’m seeing BIG things coming my way with this game.
I’m really looking forward to playing the game, all the more reviewing it if given the chance. Surely Guerilla Games won’t disappoint me.
