Breaking news, the Pokémon Company has announced that the Pokémon series have surpassed 300 million shipments (including download numbers) worldwide. They have revealed this information earlier on to Famitsu (in Japanese) that this figure is the accumulated lifetime sales spanning across 76 different titles over the series since 1996.
Safe to say, they did not include Pokémon Go, since the game is free-to-play on mobile. The 300M includes both physical and download sales for the core RPG series, the well-renowned spin-off Pokémon Snap, support titles like the PokePark series, a lot of side games like the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, Pokémon Stadium, Pokken Tournament, and of course the the latest entries in the series, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, which released last week selling over 1.2 million copies in Japan in just the first three days.
At 300 million copies, Pokémon is the second bestselling video game franchise of all time, next to Nintendo’s Mario franchise. These numbers are very positive and hopeful especially with their upcoming first core entries to the Nintendo Switch.
