The PlayStation 5 reveal event is finally happening next week on June 5 with fans already excited of what the next-gen console would look like after many months of Sony Interactive Entertainment keeping silent of it. They have only revealed the DualSense controller and the inner workings of the next-gen console, but never the physical form of it. This will all change next week with tons more of information that will be spilled by the executives.
Xbox Series X was already revealed by Microsoft many weeks ago and a lot of information was shared as well especially the most favored featured of all: Xbox’s Smart Delivery system. Xbox owners only need one version of the game and it can be playable on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
Some have thought that this feature might be possible for the PS5 and PS4 as well. PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan officially clarified this in a recent interview with GameIndustry.biz.
Ryan has officially answered no to this idea since PlayStation is not interested in doing it.
We have always said that we believe in generations. We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console, that it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not include. And that, in our view, people should make games that can make the most of those features.
We do believe in generations, and whether it’s the DualSense controller, whether it’s the 3D audio, whether it’s the multiple ways that the SSD can be used… we are thinking that it is time to give the PlayStation community something new, something different, that can really only be enjoyed on PS5.
So there you have it everyone, the PS4 console system will not be able to play PS5 exclusive games. The PS5, however, can play some PS4 titles that will be approved for PS5 compatibility. There could be more in the future, if the developers submit it for approval.
The PS5 will launch sometime in the holidays 2020.
