PlayStation Communities Closing Down in April 2021

PlayStation Communities

Game company Sony Interactive Entertainment has made it official to close down the PlayStation Communities feature for good.

The announcement came from an email sent by SIE just recently. The feature will be shut down in April 2021. They did say that players still can stay connected and enjoy messaging features and more on their PS4 and PlayStation App as usual. Here’s their full statement:

Thank you for using the PS Communities feature on your PS4 console. Beginning in April 2021, this feature will no longer be supported or available on your PS4 console.

However, you’ll still be able to stay connected and enjoy messaging features and more on your PS4 and the PlayStation App.

This was actually not the first time that the removal of the feature was revealed by SIE. It was part of the patch notes on upcoming 8.5 update beta, which states the removal of the feature. It is possible that the same 8.5 update, the full one, will be released in April 2021 as well.

No replacement of the PlayStation Communities was announced, but there are similar ones already.

Here’s a description of the feature:

Communities are places where you can find players who have similar interests and preferences. Within a Community, you can play games or have parties with other Community members, or talk about your shared interests.

You can create a new Community or join a Community that already exists.
