According to a new report, game company Microsoft is already in talks with Discord to purchase it for over $10 billion.
Media outlet Bloomberg has reported this new development but it seems the deal is still not imminent yet. There is also another source saying that Discord might instead go public and not sell itself in the end.
There are other game companies interested in buying Discord though since it is a popular gaming-focused chat software. These companies are Epic Games and Amazon.
Media outlet VentureBeat first reported that it was the one exploring a sale worth more than $10 billion. Its popularity garnered it more or less 140 million monthly users and has recently raised $100 million at a $7 billion valuation.
According to Bloomberg’s report, it was Discord that reached out to Microsoft in order to give them interest in the potential sale. It is said that Phil Spencer was part of these talks. If this comes through, the Xbox platform will definitely benefit a lot from this since it will have a dedicated platform for sharing gameplay videos, chat, and more.
No official confirmation from both Microsoft and Discord yet.
