Yakuza: Like a Dragon is the Most Successful Title of the Franchise

Yakuza: Like a Dragon

SEGA Vice President Shuji Utsumi recently some details about their achievements like Yakuza: Like a Dragon and possibly a hint of a new Sonic game.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon gang

Utsumi first revealed in an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu that SEGA desires to globally expand Atlus games. After the success of Persona 5 Strikers and Persona 4 Golden on Steam, the higher-ups were impressed that they want to make other games available on other platforms too. This could possibly mean some of the favorite tiles will finally be on Steam and maybe on other platforms too (silently wishes for Nintendo Switch version of Persona 5).

The VP then praised Yakuza: Like a Dragon for being the most successful title in the franchise worldwide. Granted that the previous titles were already that popular, according to him, Yakuza: Like a Dragon is the top ranker.

Yakuza Series Creator Toshihiro Nagoshi was cited as the major point of success for the Yakuza franchise. Utsumi notes that Nagoshi is one of the few people that are capable of making a global hit title. Nagoshi has now been asked to work closely with the development teams so that they can release successful hits as well.

On the last part of the interview, Utsumi hinted that there could be a new Sonic game announcement in the future. Some speculate that this will be announced during E3 2021 since SEGA has been confirmed to participate.
