We have had a decent run last month with some fun xenomorph hunting escapade in Aliens: Fireteam Elite from Cold Iron Studios, a director’s cut release of Ghost of Tsushima alongside its Iki Island expansion, and the gorgeous platformer from Double Fine, Psychonauts 2.
But next month will be massive for third-party games. As we’re heading close to the last quarter of 2021, September has tons of video games that will keep us busy until the next platform exclusive launch. Here are the top and best video games releasing in the month of September 2021.

Lost in Random
From the creators of Fe and Flipping Deaths, Lost in Random is a gothic fairy tale action-adventure platformer. Players will uncover a twisted narrative written by the Eisner Award-winning Adventure Time and Marvel Comics The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl author Ryan North. The beautiful haunted wonderland will have 6 realms of Random with varying challenges.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate
We rarely get good Sonic games nowadays and with the box office success of Sonic the Hedgehog, I kind of expected that we will get a brand new entry of SEGA’s biggest blue mascot. Instead, the publisher decided to remaster 2010’s Sonic Colors.
Sonic Colors: Ultimate was announced earlier this year in May with Blind Squirrel Games doing the remaster. Ultimate will get enhanced visuals, a new soundtrack, better frame rate stability, and a new Rival Rush mode. Fans of the original will definitely appreciate this re-release.

Life Is Strange: True Colors
We may never get to see Chloe again, but Deck Nine is set for another Life is Strange game in September. Considered to be the fifth game of the franchise, but the third main entry, True Colors follows the life of an Asian-American woman named Alex Chen who had a troubled childhood. After a brief family reunion with her brother, Gabe, after eight years, Gabe is killed in an accident.
The game will still retain the third-person angle with a branching narrative that’s dependent on the choices you make.

F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch
Who does not like a sidescroller beat ’em up rabbit game? Since Bilibili’s announcement that the game has gone gold, FIST: Forged in Shadow Torch is one of the most anticipated games of this year. Showcasing stunning visuals running in Unreal Engine 4 and fluid arcade-styled melee combat, FIST is going to be fun.

Tales of Arise
JRPG and Tales fans rejoice! Bandai Namco is already set to release the latest Tales entry next month. No one can argue that Tales of Arise is a killer based on the playable demo. Our resident contributor, Casey David, said “Arise is much flashier, streamlined, and innovative than past entries,” assuring that the game will definitely meet its expectations.

Lost Judgment
The upcoming Judgment sequel is just in time to quench your thirst for a Yakuza-spin off beat ’em up game. The story will still follow the private detective Takayumi Yagami investigating a murder case that involves sexual harassment. Much like Yakuza in terms of gameplay, players can still explore the cities like Kamurocho, and the game is still filled with side-quests and some side activities that you can do.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut
Hideo Kojima’s latest piece is pretty divisive amongst critics and its player base. Some may call it “boring”, while some may see Death Stranding a work of art and compelling. But that didn’t stop Kojima from releasing a Director’s Cut exclusively on the PS5. The game will make use of the newest SSD and DualSense technology to further enhance the player’s experience when delivering items, plus the game will run at higher resolutions and frame rates.

Diablo II: Resurrected
If you have been following the Activision-Blizzard lawsuit, then Diablo II: Resurrected might be one of those games that you’re trying to avoid. But that does not mean it’s not of the biggest releases in the month of September. Resurrected revives the classic, rogue-lite dungeon crawler role-playing game with better assets, improved effects, and a remastered soundtrack while retaining its core gameplay mechanics. So if you’re a huge fan of the original, Resurrected may interest you.

Deathloop
This is probably Sony’s last Bethesda game unless if Microsoft greenlit The Elder’s Scrolls VI to launch on PS5 because we know for a fact Starfield, once expected to release on Sony’s platform, is now an Xbox exclusive. At the time being, Deathloop may be the last game from Arkane Studios to release on a PlayStation console.
Deathloop is a murder puzzle action game that puts you in the shoes of Cole, an assassin who is stuck in a time loop when the night ends. Your main goal is to eliminate eight targets to stop the time loop (some similarities in Luis Antonio’s 12 Minutes game), and failure to do so before the timer ends will reset the entire time loop. I’m expecting that there will be more trial and error runs that will last for hours just to complete the game but in a fun way.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits
Hailed as one of the most anticipated games on the PS4 and PS5, Ember Lab has beautifully developed a platformer adventure with tons of Rot cuteness. With its magnificent Pixar-grade visuals, we can’t wait for what Kena: Bridge of Spirits has to offer on Sony’s next-generation console.
