It hasn’t been long since leaks started popping up regarding a trilogy remaster of the three great Grand Theft Autos from the PS2 era and thanks to Rockstar Games for confirming all the leaks via Twitter, we can all be hopeful now that one of our wishes can finally come true soon.
“In honor of the upcoming anniversary, today we are excited to announce that all three games will be coming to current generation platforms later this year in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and the Rockstar Games Launcher on PC.” stated by Rockstar. An announcement will be made later this month to mark the 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto III.
“Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will feature across-the-board upgrades including graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements for all three titles, while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals. We’re extremely excited to share more about these groundbreaking titles in the coming weeks”
It is important to note that Rockstar will be removing the existing versions of the three classic titles from digital retailers next week which is a bummer. The trilogy will also be coming to iOS and Android sometime in the first half of 2022.
Also as part of the 20th anniversary celebration, players will be able to collect some special gear in Grand Theft Auto Online all throughout this Fall which will include some commemorative clothing. More details will be available on how one might be able to acquire these in the upcoming weeks.
GTA 5 Remastered is also set for release next year for the new generation of consoles with a set release window of March 2022 provided it doesn’t get delayed any further than it has.
GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas, were some of the games that defined gaming in the early 2000s and innovations that blew gamers away at the time. It isn’t exactly a surprise that these masterpieces are being ported to the current generation of consoles (again) but at the same time it is still a surprise if you can somewhat understand what I’m trying to get here. One thing’s for sure though, I can’t wait to just sit back and flip through the iconic GTA radio and chill, especially with Vice City’s Emotion 98.3.
