The Diablo 4 open world will be a franchise changer if it’s true since previous installments were closer to free-roam environments. There are many changes being introduced to the fourth game that will fundamentally change the way players play Diablo. With these new changes, we’re curious if an open-world Diablo 4 is a new introduction to the franchise.
Is Diablo 4 Open World?
Diablo 4 features a new open world feature where you can explore towns, accept quests, and enter dungeons. A large part of the sanctuary can be explored should you be strong enough to take on the enemies that reside there.
During the Diablo 4 Early Access beta, we explored a large portion of the Sanctuary open world. It’s easy to get lost wandering from town to town and get sidetracked from the main story by accepting quests from strangers. The explorable grounds in Diablo 4 iarestructured like any other open -orld environment.
There are five total regions that make up the Diablo 4 open world. We only got to see one during the beta, which was large enough in itself to contain several dungeons, towns, and secret pathways. Still, it was enough to introduce us to the damage the main villain of the game can do in a larger setting.
Once the full game releases, we’ll be able to explore Scosglen, Dry Steppes, Fractured Peaks, Kehjistan, and Hawezar. Each region is estimated to be at least 10 times larger than even some of the biggest areas in Diablo III. Each region is also aesthetically different. Fractured Peaks is cold and lifeless; Kehjistan is a large barren desert with a few jungles, Hawezar has its filthy swamps; Scosglen is the hinterlands near the coastline; and the grasslands of the Dry Steppes.
With such a large open world, players can traverse through it using mounts. They’ll also encounter world bosses roaming around, which are dangerous to take on. They can team up with other players either online or in couch co-op to take on these behemoths.
This does make it sound like the Diablo 4 open world is similar to an MMO; however, this isn’t necessarily the case. It features a lot of shared elements with other players, where you’ll meet some of them traveling on the way, and places like towns act as hubs for players to interact with. There are no server regions in Diablo 4, and you can transition from one of the regions into another gracefully.
That’s all on the Diablo 4 open world. Get ready to see hell reborn again when the game releases this June 6, 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
